JUNE 2020 WINNER

Glenn Chinyangarara (nominated by Suzanne Perry)

I first met Glenn when he applied to join the Student Union in his first year at college and at that time he was a shy, quiet and reserved student.  During his time in office, he has worked within a team, organising and helping with fundraising and social events.

Glenn shows kindness and consideration to his peers and has faced some challenging times at college but has matured into a polite and confident young man.  He always has a willing smile and my job as Student Engagement Advisor is made worthwhile by having students like Glenn around.  Well done Glenn!

Glenn split his money between the Student Union who bought a camera, and the Media Department.

MAY 2020 WINNER

James Foster (nominated by Julia Loraine)

I gave James a lot of time and patience in discussing and facilitating his work experience this year and am thrilled not just because it was a success for the employer but mostly because he achieved so much personally, he came back to College a different person.  It’s amazing what a week and the right setting can do for a student.  James overcame many of his own personal barriers in his work experience week.

James donated his money to the Work Experience Department who bought laptop cases and stationery for students use.

APRIL 2020 WINNER

Amelia Smith (nominated by Zainab Abdul)

Amelia is a student I see regularly and one that never missed college until she became physically ill and went from 100% attendance to nought.

She is now trying to get better by helping others, sending positivity packages to them.  I think it's very courageous of her, and deserves recognition.

Amelia donated her money to the Well-Being Department who bought various stationey items for students use.

MARCH 2020 WINNER

Abdella Mohammed (nominated by Nickie Hillebrandt)

                    /portal/Photos/186323.jpg

Throughout Abdella’s time at USP College, first at the Seevic Campus and then Palmer’s, he has been an exemplary student; always industrious, determined and positive.  His curiosity of both Maths and his own place in the world has led him to develop a passion for learning which is hugely impressive and which his teachers have all admired.  Well done Abdella!

Abdella split his money between the Library who bought books, and the Well-Being Team who bought stationey items for students use.

Nathan Akomolede (nominated by Student Services Team)

Nathan found a very expensive watch in the Lower Student Centre and handed it in to Student Services.  This was very much appreciated by the student who claimed it.

Nathan showed great honesty and morality and his actions should be recognised and celebrated.

Nathan donated his money to Student Services who bought a lockable phone charger and various phone chargers.

Sammie England (nominated by Suzanne Perry)

Sam has worked extremely hard as a College representative and a member of the Student Union.

She shows outstanding commitment to extracurricular activities at the College, always volunteering to help on open evenings, parents evenings and other lunchtime and after College events.  Sam has taken on the responsibility for the LGBTQ+ group, which now has a growing student attendance.

She has striven to represent student views at every available forum without fail.

Sammie donated her money to Study Plus who bought games and stationery.

OCTOBER 2019 WINNER

Sadie Allen (nominated by Julia Loraine)

Sadie is a very shy student who lacks in self-confidence.  I have worked with her for a couple of years now.  Last year she was extremely anxious about her work experience, but I carefully selected a placement where she would fit in and she came back a different student.  Her feedback actually made me cry last year!

She has just been out again for this year’s work placement, again I was met with the same concerns, she really didn’t want to do it, but knew she had to push herself out of her comfort zone to do this.  I placed her again with a different employer, but one I knew she would be looked after and nurtured.  I have just received her profile feedback from this placement and I really feel she has accomplished so much as an individual.

She completed the profile document and in her own words:

My self-motivation skills improved because I was always looking for something to do.

I got better at teamwork because I was always working with other people

I got better at communicating because I wasn’t shamed for asking for help

The first day was the hardest but it got easier as the week went by.  I felt more comfortable there than I do at College and I now feel a lot less nervous about getting a job in the future.

I feel accomplished in the part I played and am so proud of her for the continued growth in her as an individual and in getting prepared for the world outside of College.  I know Sadie will be mortified to have a photo taken, but she should be thrilled and pleased with achieving so much.  We should recognise the progress she has made.

Sadie donated her money to the Media Department who bought a new camera and case.

SEPTEMBER 2019 WINNER

Ruta Dubinskaite (nominated by Ritchie Naylor)

Ruta is an exemplary student who engages in everything that college and life has to offer in a positive and influential manner.

Ruta took it upon herself to add BTEC Sport to her timetable as an extra  A-Level due to her wanting to widen her understanding of sports science and she has excelled in this topic gaining a Distinction star when she was only predicted a merit.

Her independent study is second to none while also engaging in cross college activities as a student champion. Ruta is also very kind and will help any student and teacher out if she can.

Ruta donated her money to the Sports Department who bought new outdoor footballs.
