Student Union President & Governors

The Student Governor is responsible for representing students at two different levels.  Firstly, leading the SU Champions by overseeing their work and acting as President, and secondly, reflecting the views of students at the college’s highest decision making level via Corporation meetings, and providing them with an insight into student life.

Student Governors are elected annually by their peers and serve for one academic year.

Student Union Champions 

  • To contribute a positive image, behave appropriately, and uphold the values of the Student Union.
  • Undertake training when necessary or essential to the role.
  • Be prepared to work outside normal college hours occasionally.
  • To attend College promotional events such as open evenings.
  • To work closely with the Student Engagement Officers

Charity and Social Champion:

Vacancies at both campuses 

As Charity and Social Champion you will be required to plan and deliver events within the college for all learners.

You will also be required to work closely with students and staff to market events. This will include organising fundraising initiatives, events and awareness campaigns around college.

You will be required to work with all SU Champions to pioneer a calendar of events and ensure each event is innovative and will engage students. You will assist with evaluating possible costs in order to report these to the President. You will also assist in helping set up teams and social groups within the college.

Communications Champion:

As Communications Champion you will work alongside marketing and the learner voice team on social media posts and projects, you will also edit the SU Newsletter. The SU presence on the website and VLE will also be your responsibility. 

You will attend monthly meetings with the marketing team to look at SU promotion for the following month.

Curriculum and Quality Champion:

The Curriculum and Quality Champion will work to support the Director for Teaching and Learning and Teacher Improvement Practitioners in ensuring that students are well-supported and all have the opportunity to achieve their learning goals.

You will be trained within the college learning walks programme, and will support in them throughout the year.

The Curriculum and Quality Champion will represent the voice of the students at college Curriculum and Quality meetings.

Environmental and Sustainability Champion:

The Environmental and Sustainability Champion is a great way to improve the environmental impact of your department, boost your sustainability literacy and is a great addition to your CV.

You will lead on promoting environmental issues, both local and global, with the main aim of raising awareness of these issues across the student body at the College.

The Environmental and Sustainability Champion will represent the voice of the students at college Health and Safety meetings.

 

Equality and Diversity Champion:

As Equality & Diversity Champion you will provide students with advice, guidance and support on issues regarding equality and diversity.

You will ensure that we strive to reach all of the equality outcomes generated from the committee meetings and promote a sense that all students at the college are equal regarding Sex, Race, Age, Religion and belief, Gender reassignment, Disability, Sexual orientation, Pregnancy and maternity.

The Equality & Diversity Champion will represent the voice of the students at college Equality & Diversity meetings.

Foundation Champion:

As Foundation Champion you will provide students from Foundation Learning with advice, guidance and support on any issues they may have and bring any ideas and concerns to Student Union meetings.

You will ensure that the voice of students from Foundation Learning are represented in forums across the college. You will meet with the Foundation team in order to support and lead on projects with them.

Health and Safety Champion:

As the Health and Safety Champion you will maintain a close relationship with our Health and Safety team and develop systems to ensure health and safety regulations are being met during any SU event.

 

The Health and Safety Champion will represent the voice of the students at college Health and Safety meetings.

 

Inspire Champion:

As the Inspire Champion for the college you will work alongside the college companies, work experience team and careers to ensure that the College stays ahead of the game in providing its students with the best possible tools to prepare them for the world of work.

You will both support and lead on projects relating to employability, links with local and national businesses and the Student CPD Days.

Safeguarding and PREVENT Champion:

As Safeguarding & PREVENT Champion you will work alongside the safeguarding team to ensure that students are well-supported and all have the opportunity to achieve their goals.

You will be trained to be fully aware of the safeguarding procedures within the College and how to report any issue relating to safeguarding. The Safeguarding & PREVENT Champion will work with students to investigate the causes of wellbeing issues within the college and to design solutions to those problems

The Safeguarding & PREVENT Champion will represent the voice of the students at college Safeguarding & PREVENT meetings.

Storm Champion:

Being passionate about healthy living and keeping active, the Storm Champion will be responsible for the promotion of ‘Health and Wellbeing’ to the student body at the College. They will also be responsible for the promotion of all Storm events and fixtures.

Working alongside the Catering Team, Enrichment Team, Sports Team and Student Services Team you will be the voice of the students when it comes to matters relating to both physical and mental health.

 

 

Vice-President: (1 per campus – will also assume an officer role)

The Vice President will represent the voice of the student body, deputising for the President

where required. You will also support the President in promoting the SU.

Main duties for this role only:

  • To actively promote all the Learner Voice forums and to attend meetings on behalf of the President when required.
  • To support the other SU Champions and to ensure that decisions and task completion is consistent.
  • To ensure equality of opportunity is promoted and represented in all aspects of College life.
